Dr. Ryia Illani Mohd Yunos is a Senior Science Officer at UKM Medical Molecular Biology UKM (UMBI) and has served UKM for more than 10 years. She holds PhD in Molecular Medicine from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She previously earned her Master’s in Molecular medicine and BSc in Genetics, both from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Her PhD project focuses on the characterization of somatic alterations in colorectal cancer patients via a whole-genome sequencing approach. Dr. Ryia research interest revolves around understanding cancer genetics and precision medicine in cancers. She has been trained in the field of molecular biology for more than a decade and involved in research utilizing various state-of-the-art laboratory techniques throughout her cancer research works specifically in colorectal cancers and pediatric cancers. She is well trained in next generation sequencing of short and long read approach particularly in whole genome, whole exome as well as targeted DNA sequencing. She is developing an interest in bioinformatics and variant analysis for precision medicine. She is also a team member of the national COVID19 genome surveillance team. Her expertise in cancer research has been recognized with numerous awards at national and international conferences, including Young Investigator Award, Best Paper Award and Best Poster Award. Several of her research works have been published in high impact journals such as Biomolecule, Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences and International Journal of Infectious Diseases.
