Biografi/ Biography :
Mazlin Bin Mokhtar is an accomplished environmental analytical chemist and academic leader notably. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from the University of Tasmania and a PhD in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from The University of Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry, and he was conferred the titles Paduka Mahkota Perak (PMP) and Dato’ Setia DiRaja Kedah (DSDK) for services to academia and society. He currently serves as Deputy Head for Research at the Asia Headquarters of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN) hosted by Sunway University, Director for the Ecological Systems Program, and Co‑Chair of the Science Panel for Borneo, Southeast Asia, focusing on biodiversity conservation and SDG implementation. From 1985 to 2022 he served Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in multiple leadership roles including Deputy Vice‑Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Director of LESTARI, and Founding Director of PUSPA. Nationally, he chaired the Malaysian Environmental Quality Council and led government committees on environmental governance, including evaluations of rare earth operations. He led the Advocacy, Awareness and Capacity Building initiative for Malaysia’s Water Sector Transformation 2040, a national project under the Economic Planning Unit and Academy of Sciences Malaysia. His awards include the Langkawi Environmental Award and an Emeritus Professor Award from UKM. He chaired WWF Malaysia’s Conservation Committee and contributed to UNDP‑GEF Malaysia’s Small Grants Programme. Internationally he held research fellowships with the IAEA Marine Environment Laboratory and collaborated with Japanese programs including JSPS Global COE and UNU initiatives to develop UNCECAR training. A founder of Malaysian Water Partnership and former National Manager for MyCapNet, Mazlin advises government, industry and NGOs on sustainable development.
