My research journey has always revolved around mosquitoes, particularly Aedes mosquitoes, the primary vectors of dengue. I am deeply fascinated by their biology and ecology, and more importantly, how this knowledge can be translated into effective vector control strategies. From the start, my passion has been to bridge scientific understanding with real-world solutions that impact public health and community well-being.
Over the years, my expertise has been sought by various stakeholders in vector control, including the Ministry of Health, Department of Health, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and several industries such as BASF (a renowned international chemical company), EntoGeneX Sdn. Bhd., and New Wave Communications Sdn. Bhd. I have served as a resource person on numerous occasions, offering insights and guidance on mosquito and dengue-related issues.
I have also led and participated in numerous community service initiatives. One of the most significant was the Dengue-Free Community project (Komuniti Bebas Denggi), a flagship program under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI). However, a particularly meaningful experience was leading the Post-Flood Humanitarian Mission to Gua Musang, Kelantan (2014–2015). There, we conducted psychological assessments and therapy for flood survivors—especially schoolchildren—and helped clean and rehabilitate schools and public areas in Kampung Pasir Tumbuh, Kampung Bertam Lama, and Kampung Limau Kasturi.
My research has since evolved to include the behavioral aspects of dengue control. I have explored the sustainability of Communication for Behavioral Impact (COMBI) strategies, empowering communities to actively participate in dengue prevention. Through this work, I have had the opportunity to contribute to national policy as a panelist for the Aedes Mosquito Control Guidelines 2016–2020 by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
