   Biografi/ Biography :

  • Poh Bee Koon adalah Profesor Pemakanan di Fakulti Sains Kesihatan, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Beliau mempunyai lebih 20 tahun pengalaman penyelidikan yang melibatkan projek pelbagai disiplin dan pelbagai negara. Bidang penyelidikan beliau tertumpu kepada pemakanan kanak-kanak dan remaja, dengan projek merangkumi tinjauan, pemerhatian dan kajian intervensi. Prof Poh telah mengetuai pelbagai geran antarabangsa, termasuk yang dibiayai oleh United Kingdom Medical Research Council, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Development Research Centre (IDRC Canada), International Glutamate Technical Committee, serta daripada pihak industri. Beliau merupakan Ketua Projek South East Asian Nutrition Surveys (SEANUTS), satu tinjauan kebangsaan mengenai status pemakanan kanak-kanak; ToyBox Study Malaysia, satu intervensi yang bertujuan mengurangkan kadar obesiti melalui pemakanan sihat dan aktiviti fizikal dalam kalangan kanak-kanak prasekolah; dan South East Asia Obesogenic Food Environment (SEAOFE) study, yang bertujuan menilai persekitaran runcit makanan sebagai panduan untuk dasar pemakanan sihat. Beliau juga terlibat dalam kajian menggunakan kaedah isotop stabil untuk menilai komposisi badan dan penggunaan tenaga dalam kalangan individu sihat serta pesakit kanser pediatrik. Prof Poh telah terlibat dalam kerja perundingan untuk Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia dan merupakan ahli Task Force Obesiti di bawah Akademi Sains Malaysia yang membuat kajian "Pilihan Dasar Makanan untuk Mengurangkan Obesiti di Malaysia". Beliau telah menerima pelbagai anugerah, termasuk International Nutrition Foundation–Ellison Medical Foundation Short-term Fellowship, dan IAEA Nobel Peace Prize Fund Schools in Nutrition Fellowship. Prof Poh merupakan Ketua Editor Malaysian Journal of Nutrition. Beliau juga dilantik sebagai Felo Akademi Sains Malaysia, Persatuan Pemakanan Malaysia, dan Persatuan Kajian Obesiti Malaysia.
    Poh Bee Koon is Professor of Nutrition at Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She has more than 20 years of research experience that involves multi-disciplinary and multi-country projects. Her research areas focus on childhood and adolescent nutrition, and her projects covers surveys, observation and intervention studies. Prof Poh has led many international grants, including those funded by United Kingdom Medical Research Council, United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), International Development Research Centre (IDRC Canada), International Glutamate Technical Committee, as well as those from the industry. She is Principal Investigator of South East Asian Nutrition Surveys (SEANUTS), a nationally-representative survey on nutritional status of children; ToyBox Study Malaysia, intervention aimed at reducing obesity rates through improving preschoolers’ healthy eating and physical activity; and South East Asia Obesogenic Food Environment (SEAOFE) study, which aims to assess food retail environment for healthy dietary policy guidance. She has been involved in stable isotope work to assess body composition and energy expenditure among healthy individuals as well as in paediatric cancer patients. Prof Poh has participated in consultation work for Ministry of Health Malaysia and was involved in Academy of Sciences Malaysia’s Obesity Task Force to study "Prioritizing Food Policy Options to Reduce Obesity in Malaysia". She has won numerous awards, including International Nutrition Foundation–Ellison Medical Foundation Short-term Fellowship and IAEA Nobel Peace Prize Fund Schools in Nutrition fellowship. Prof Poh is the Editor-in-Chief for Malaysian Journal of Nutrition. She is a Fellow member of Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Nutrition Society of Malaysia, and Malaysian Association for the Study of Obesity.
