Abdul Munir Abdul Murad is an Associate Professor of Applied Microbiology at the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He holds a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from University of Abeedeen, United Kingdom and a BSc in Microbiology and Biotechnology from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. He joined UKM in 1995 as a tutor and promoted to lecturer in 2001 and Associate Professor in 2011. Currently he is focusing on the following research areas:
i. Molecular pathogenesis of oil palm fungal pathogen Ganoderma boninense;
ii. Development of fungi and carbohydrate-acting enzymes towards the hydrolysis of agricultural biomass;
iii. Enzymes and proteins from psychrophilic and alkaliphilic microorganisms;
iv. Production and applications of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria.
Abdul Munir is currently the President for the Malaysian Society of Applied Biology.
