Biografi/ Biography :
Dato’ Dr. Jegan Thanabalan is an Associate Professor and a Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon at the National University of Malaysia. He has been a lecturer at UKM Medical Center since 2002. His area of interest is in Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery, Neuroendoscopy , Functional neurosurgery and Epilepsy.
Dato’ Dr. Jegan completed his MBBS at the University of Mangalore in 1994 and obtained his MS at the National University of Malaysia in 2002. He then completed his fellowship training in Functional Neurosurgery at Oxford, United Kingdom in 2008. He went on to train in Endoscopic Skull Base surgery at Naples in 2010 and at the University of Pittsburgh in 2011.
He then initiated the Endoscopic Skull Base and Deep Brain Stimulation services at the National University of Malaysia.
Apart from clinical work, Dato’ Dr. Jegan is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and has been an examiner since 2002. He has also contributed to publications both locally and internationally in reputable journals.
His main area of research involves pituitary tumors, fMRI, DTI and head injury. He has participated in both local and international multicenter trials. He is an invited speaker at several national and international conferences.
Dato’ Dr. Jegan has conducted and has been in the organizing committee for various workshops including Endoscopic Skull Base workshops, Neurotrauma and Image Guidance Stereotaxic workshops.
Dato’ Dr. Jegan is a member of the Neurosurgical Association of Malaysia, Malaysian Society of Neurosciences and the Movement Disorder Society.
