  •    Biografi/ Biography :

  • Ahmad Ashrif A. Bakar ialah Profesor dan Pengarah Institut Mikrokejuruteraan dan Nanoelektronik (IMEN), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Di IMEN, beliau menerajui program antara disiplin merangkumi fotonik, MEMS/NEMS dan sains mikrosistem, termasuk pembangunan platform pemangkin untuk teknologi semikonduktor dan kejuruteraan kuantum. Beliau ialah Jurutera Profesional berdaftar di Malaysia dan memperoleh Ph.D. dalam Kejuruteraan Elektrik dari The University of Queensland. Fokus penyelidikan beliau adalah pada penderiaan dan instrumentasi berasaskan fotonik untuk aplikasi bioperubatan, kimia analisis dan pemantauan alam sekitar. Beliau menggabungkan nanofotonik, modulasi medan plasmonik (termasuk resonans plasmon permukaan), mikro-fabrikasi, bahan penderiaan optik, interferometri maklum balas laser dan spektroskopi bagi memahami interaksi cahaya–jirim dalam medium kompleks, seterusnya menterjemahkan dapatan fizik kepada platform penderiaan yang lebih mantap. Seiring dengan kekuatan ini, beliau turut membangunkan hala tuju dalam pembangunan peranti semikonduktor dan kejuruteraan kuantum untuk menyokong teknologi fotonik generasi baharu serta seni bina penderiaan masa terkehadapan. Beliau juga menyumbang sebagai perunding industri dalam pembangunan produk dan aktif menggerakkan inisiatif pendidikan kejuruteraan serta jangkauan STEM, termasuk penglibatan dan tadbir urus di peringkat sekolah. Sejak 2021, beliau berkhidmat sebagai ahli Lembaga Pengarah dan Lembaga Gabenor Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (UniSHAMS). Beliau telah menerbitkan lebih 200 penerbitan teknikal berindeks, memiliki tiga paten yang telah diluluskan serta telah memfailkan sepuluh permohonan paten. Beliau ialah Ahli Kanan IEEE dan OPTICA, dan penyelidikannya diiktiraf atas impaknya dalam bidang fotonik dan penderiaan optik.
    Ahmad Ashrif A. Bakar is Professor and Director of the Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics (IMEN), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where he provides strategic leadership for interdisciplinary programmes spanning photonics, MEMS/NEMS, microsystems science, and enabling platforms for semiconductor and quantum engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Malaysia and earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from The University of Queensland. His research advances photonics-based sensing and instrumentation for biomedical, analytical chemistry, and environmental monitoring applications. He integrates nanophotonics, plasmonic field modulation (including surface plasmon resonance), microfabrication, optical sensing materials, laser feedback interferometry, and spectroscopy to interrogate light–matter interactions in complex media and translate physical insight into robust sensing platforms. Complementing this foundation, he is developing directions in semiconductor device development and quantum engineering that support next-generation photonic technologies and sensing architectures. He also contributes as an industry consultant in product development and remains actively involved in engineering education and STEM outreach, including school engagement and governance. Since 2021, he has served on the Board of Directors and Board of Governors of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (UniSHAMS). He has authored more than 200 indexed technical publications, holds three granted patents, and has filed a further ten patent applications. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and OPTICA, and his research is recognised for its impact in photonics and optical sensing.
