Ahmad Ashrif A BAKAR received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Universiti Tenaga Nasional) in 2002, Master’s degree in Communications and Network System Engineering (Universiti Putra Malaysia) in 2004, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering (University of Queensland, Australia) in 2010. He is actively involved in The Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE Member since 2002 & Senior Member since 2012), Board of Engineers Malaysia (Professional Engineer since 2013), and The Optical Society of America (Member since 2014 & Senior member of OSA since 2020).
He devotes his research work to optical sensors in biochemical, biomedical instrumentations, water, and environment applications, specifically in optical techniques of surface plasmon resonance, optical sensing material, and optical feedback interferometry. He is also actively involved in engineering education.
He is author and co-author of more than 116 research articles with 4 patents and 9 product developments. He was granted with 55 research grants worth of RM5 Million. He has wide experience in supervising research students; 22 Ph.Ds., 8 Masters, and 26th bachelor’s degree projects. In terms of recognitions, he obtained a professional excellence service award in 2014, being rewarded with several best paper awards in optical conferences and medal awards in research and innovations competitions, etc.
Besides that, he was also being appointed as a consultant to assist industries in developing their product development. Furthermore, he is also actively involved in engineering education initiatives. To name a few; promoting engineering subjects and career development to secondary schools, managing STEM activities to nurture engineering subjects, and being one of the board members in school.
