Biografi/ Biography :
Dr Safinaz Mohd Khialdin is a Senior Lecturer, Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist and the Head of Paediatric Ophthalmology Unit (Childhood Eye Diseases) in UKM.
She is highly sought after for her expertise in childhood eye diseases especially on myopia (long-sightedness) and receives referrals from the ministry and private hospitals including overseas. She is currently appointed as the Chairperson of the Malaysian Advocacy for Myopia Prevention (MAMP), a national taskforce which advocates the important issue of myopia to the public and health practitioners. She is frequently invited to give talks at national and international conferences as well as in public seminars on the topic of childhood eye diseases.
She is also heavily involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education. She is the Director of the Clinical Fellowship Training for Paediatric Ophthalmology in UKM. She is also appointed as the Course Director for the Training for the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum. She is also the Main Committee in the Malaysian Universities Conjoint Committee of Ophthalmology which looks into the national postgraduate training in the country. She has also successfully obtained an external industrial grant for the postgraduate ophthalmology training. She was also the Coordinator for the Postgraduate Masters of Ophthalmology and Undergraduate Medical Students (Year 4 &5).
She is actively involved in research and has a number on going external and internal grants. She has more than 50 peer-reviewed articles including publications in high impact journals. She also has published several books on eye health and diseases.
