Biografi/ Biography :
Professor Dr. Azizah Ugusman is a Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology and Head of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She obtained her Medical Degree with Distinction from UKM and subsequently pursued postgraduate studies in Physiology, with her Master`s candidature upgraded to a PhD based on her research performance and progress. She later undertook postdoctoral training at the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Her research focuses on cardiovascular physiology, particularly vascular endothelial dysfunction, hypertension, the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease, and novel therapeutic approaches to cardiovascular disease. She has published more than 100 journal articles and has successfully secured and led numerous competitive research grants.
Professor Azizah is actively involved in postgraduate education and has supervised Master`s and PhD students whose research has received awards and recognition at national and international levels. Many of her students have subsequently pursued careers in academia, research, and health-related sectors.
She also contributes actively to the wider scientific and academic community as an editorial board member, manuscript reviewer, and academic examiner, while maintaining research collaborations with institutions in Malaysia and internationally.
In professional leadership, Professor Azizah serves on the Executive Committee of the Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP) and is the Chair of the upcoming 11th Federation of Asian and Oceanian Physiological Societies Congress (FAOPS 2027), which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, next year.
