   Biografi/ Biography :

  • Associate Professor Dr Goon Jo Aan is now serving as the Head of Department of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She earned her PhD from UKM in 2007 and continued to serve her alumni since then. She was promoted to the post of Associate Professor in 2017. Her research expertise includes the use of antioxidants as supplements to prevent ageing associated disorders. Besides studying ageing in humans, she has special interest in using Caenorhabditis Elegans as an ageing model to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in the process. She has led many government funded grants, including Fundamental Research Grants, Exploratory Research Grant, Sciencefund and Research University Grants; as well as industrial sponsored grant amounting to a total above RM2 million over the past 13 years of service in UKM. Her research expertise is well established in over 25 international and local publications. She is also involved in the teaching Biochemistry to medical, dental and nursing undergraduates and has successfully supervised 5 PhD and MSc students to the completion of their research projects.
