Muhammad Shafiq Bin Ruslan telah terlibat dalam kajian Tasik Chini sejak tahun 2008 selepas mendapat Ijazah Sarjanamuda Kepujian Sains (Sains Sekitaran) dan pada tahun 2007 . Pada permulaan dilantik sebagai pembantu penyelidik bagi Program Man And Biosphere, bertujuan
membantu didalam kerja-kerja penyelidikan yang boleh menjaga dan memelihara
pemampanan Tasik Chini dan kawasan tadahannya sebagai tapak Rizab Biosfera,
UNESCO. Beliau juga telah terlibat didalam pemantauan kajian kualiti air sungai di
kawasan Rizab Biosfera ini bagi memastikan pihak berkepentingan boleh membuat
dasar pengurusan yang lebih mantap berdasarkan kajian-kajian yang telah dijalankan sehingga 2018. Meneruskan tugas sebagai Pegawai Penyelidik di Pusat Pengurusan Ekosistem dan Sumber Semulajadi pada tahun 2019 sebelum
berkhidmat di Jabatan Fizik Gunaan, Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi, UKM sehingga kini.
Malah, turut menyumbang dalam pembinaan modul ekopelancongan. Selain itu, bergerak bersama-sama ahli penyelidik lain dalam projek Geraknovasi dalam membangunkan projek modul Jati Diri di Makmal Alami FST seperti Pusat Penyelidikan Bukit Fraser (PPBF), Pusat Penyelidikan Tasik Chini (PPTC) dan Pusat Penyelidikan Ekosistem Marin (EKOMAR).
