   Biografi/ Biography :


  • Assoc. Prof. Ts. ChM. Dr. Darfizzi Derawi is an accomplished academic in the field of chemical sciences at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He holds a BSc (Hons.) in Oleochemistry and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UKM, with postdoctoral research experience at the University of Birmingham. Dr. Darfizzi is a Professional Technologist (Ts.) registered with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) and a certified chemist (ChM.) with the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM). Dr. Darfizzi’s research expertise lies in catalysis, bioenergy, and sustainable chemical processes, particularly in heterogeneous catalysis for green chemical synthesis and biofuel production, catalyst development, reaction and modification for enhanced performance in bioenergy applications. His work has significantly contributed to advanced biofuels, biolubricants, and waste-to-energy technologies, leading to high-impact publications, and industry collaborations that drive advancements in renewable energy and green chemistry. Beyond his research, Dr. Darfizzi is an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practitioner, actively involved in hazard and risk management, chemical safety, and emergency preparedness training. His consultancy expertise extends to process safety and hazard assessment, catalytic process optimization for bioenergy applications, and regulatory compliance in chemical industries. He has held several leadership roles, including Principal of Pendeta Za’ba Residential College, Deputy Chairman and Head of the Oleochemical Technology Cluster, Head of Laboratory Safety and Health at UKM, and Principal Advisor for UKM UNIPEQ Sdn. Bhd., where he oversees safety training and courses. Dr. Darfizzi’s contributions to research, innovation, and industry partnerships have been recognized through prestigious accolades, including the Newton Advanced Fellowship for outstanding research in catalysis and bioenergy and the Best Green Technology Award from Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA).
