DrDr. Caryn Mei Hsien Chan is a psychologist whose research focus and expertise lies in empowering and educating patients living with chronic illnesses. She has various interests that include health promotion and psychological strategies in primary and secondary prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Her particular area of expertise is in the field of psychosocial oncology, which examines psychological issues in cancer. Dr. Chan is specifically interested in adaptation and adherence to cancer treatment among patients with cancer and survivors, as well as coping among caregivers. She is the principal lead of several large scale prospective cohort studies which monitors patients’ psychological wellbeing through psychological assessment shortly after diagnosis and treatment, and at regular intervals in the following months and years.
