  •    Biografi/ Biography :

  • Wan Shafrina Wan Mohd Jaafar is an Associate Professor of Environmental Remote Sensing at the Institute of Climate Change (IPI), National University of Malaysia (UKM), and currently serves as the Head of the Earth Observation Centre at IPI, UKM. She received the prestigious Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award (2024/2025) and served as a Visiting Assistant Research Professor at the University of Maryland, USA from November 2024 to April 2025. She obtained her PhD in Environmental Remote Sensing (Geology & Geophysics) from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, in 2018. Her research focuses on remote sensing and geospatial analysis for forest monitoring, aboveground biomass modelling, carbon stock assessment, and land-use/land-cover change, particularly in tropical forest ecosystems. Her work also explores the application of LiDAR and advanced remote sensing technologies for sustainable forest management and landscape restoration. Wan Shafrina has actively led and participated in numerous research projects supported by international, national, and university funding, serving as Principal Investigator and collaborator on projects involving airborne laser scanning, high-resolution satellite imagery, and geospatial analytics for environmental monitoring. She has received several national and international research awards. During her doctoral studies at the University of Edinburgh, she was awarded the Lamb Fund, Geography Centenary Research Fund, and the Elizabeth Sinclair Irvine Bequest & Centenary Agroforestry 89 Award, recognising her outstanding contributions in geosciences research. Wan Shafrina is a Professional Member of the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) and a member of the Institution of Geospatial and Remote Sensing Malaysia (IGRSM) and the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). She also serves as an Expert Panel Member of the Technical Working Group on Integrated Land Resource Management under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability
