Biografi/ Biography :
Dr. Faizul Jaafar is a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He obtained both his Bachelor’s degree and PhD in Biochemistry from UKM. During his postdoctoral training at Monash University, his research focused on reproductive neuropeptide signalling and neuroendocrine regulation, which laid the foundation for his current work on the interactions between the brain, endocrine system, metabolism, and reproductive function.
His current research focuses on male reproductive health, reproductive ageing, neuroendocrinology, and the brain–reproductive axis. He is particularly interested in understanding the biological and molecular factors that contribute to declining reproductive function, including changes in seminal fluid quality, reproductive hormones, metabolic health, psychological and environmental stressors, and ageing-related alterations in testicular function. His work increasingly focuses on young men and the concept of premature or accelerated reproductive ageing, with the aim of identifying early biological changes that may precede clinically apparent reproductive dysfunction.
A major component of his research involves investigating neuropeptides and peptide signalling as mediators linking the brain, metabolism, and reproductive system. His research includes the study of reproductive neuropeptides such as spexin and phoenixin, as well as the application of emerging approaches such as peptidomics and molecular profiling to identify potential biomarkers and mechanisms associated with reproductive health and ageing. Through this work, he aims to contribute to a better understanding of male reproductive biology and to support the development of strategies for the early detection, prevention, and management of reproductive health problems.
