Mashitoh Yaacob ialah Profesor Madya di Pusat Pengajian Citra Universiti (Citra UKM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), 43600 Bangi, Selangor, MALAYSIA. Beliau memperolehi ijazah Ph.D dalam bidang Falsafah Alam Sekitar daripada University of Waikato (UoW), New Zealand pada tahun 2009 dan ijazah Sarjana dalam bidang Pengurusan Persekitaran (S.Peng.Pers.) pada tahun 1996 serta ijazah Sarjana Muda Sastera atau SmSa (Kep.) dalam bidang Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan (Persuratan Melayu) pada tahun 1995 daripada Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Beliau menjadi seorang ahli akademik sejak tahun 1997. Bidang kepakaran beliau ialah ‘Falsafah Alam Sekitar’ dan `Pengurusan Persekitaran` serta bidang penyelidikan beliau ialah `Etika Alam Sekitar`, `Etika Alam Sekitar Islam`, `Etika Kepenggunaan`, ‘Tingkah Laku Beretika Alam Sekitar’, `Pra-kitar, Guna Semula dan Kitar Semula`, `Pendidikan untuk Pembangunan Lestari`, `Seni dan Alam Sekitar`, `Sastera dan Alam Sekitar` dan `Pengajian Umum atau Liberal`. Beliau ialah ahli seumur hidup Persatuan Pengurusan Alam Sekitar, Malaysia. Penyelidikan beliau berkisar tentang bagaimana orang ramai menggunakan kebijaksanaan mereka dalam berinteraksi dan mengurus alam sekitar. Sehingga kini, kajian beliau telah menumpukan kepada falsafah/etika alam sekitar dalam konteks pengurusan alam sekitar. Penyelidikan terkini beliau memfokuskan kepada beberapa hasil yang berpusat kepada tingkah laku beretika alam sekitar sebagai salah satu bentuk penyelesaian di akar umbi masalah alam sekitar dan sebagai alat untuk pengurusan alam sekitar. Pada masa ini, beliau terlibat dalam beberapa projek penyelidikan di peringkat kebangsaan dan antarabangsa yang bertujuan untuk memahami faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi tingkah laku beretika alam sekitar. Matlamat utama adalah mengenal pasti faktor yang lebih berpengaruh untuk digunakan dalam intervensi dan dasar bagi mengurus alam sekitar dengan lebih baik.
[Mashitoh Yaacob is an Associate Professor at the School of Liberal Studies or Citra UKM (Pusat Pengajian Citra Universiti), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM, The National University of Malaysia), 43600 Bangi, Selangor, MALAYSIA. She obtained her Ph.D degree in Environmental Philosophy from University of Waikato (UoW), New Zealand in 2009, and Masters degree in Environmental Management (M.Env.Mngt.) and Bachelor of Arts or B.A (Hons) degree in Social Sciences and Humanities (Malay Letters) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1996 and 1995, respectively. She has been an academic since 1997. Her areas of expertise are in the fields of `Environmental Philosophy` and `Environmental Management` and her research interests are `Environmental Ethics`, `Islamic Environmental Ethics`, `Ethics of Consumption`, ‘Environmentally Ethical Behavior’, `Pre-cycling, Reusing and Recycling`, `Education for Sustainable Development`, `Arts and the Environment`, `Literature and the Environment` and `General or Liberal Studies`. She is a life member of Environmental Management Society, Malaysia. Her research is centered on investigating how people used their wisdom in interacting with and managing the environment. So far, her study has been concentrating on environmental philosophy/ethics in the context of environmental management. Her current research focuses on several outcomes that center on environmentally ethical behavior as one form of solution at the root of environmental problems and as a tool for environmental management. Currently, she is involved in several research projects nationally and internationally aimed at understanding influential factors of environmentally ethical behavior. The ultimate goal is to identify factors that are more influential to be utilized in interventions and policies to better manage the environment].
