Izwan Bharudin is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Dr. Izwan received Bachelor`s degree in Genetics (2007) and a Master`s degree in Molecular Biology (2011) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences (2017) from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. His research group combined next-generation sequencing (NGS) and laboratory experiments. Currently, his group is working on the main causal agent for basal rot disease (BSR) of oil palm, Ganoderma boninense, by utilizing the transcriptome sequences to explore the host-pathogen interaction. Besides, he was also involved in the extremophilic microbes, especially from Antarctica, to determine how the microbes adapt to extreme environments. He has authored and co-authored more than 20 high-quality journal articles in his field. He is very active in research work on topics related to fungi and has successfully established collaboration with industries and government agencies.
