Saiful Effendi Syafruddin is a Research Fellow/Senior Lecturer at the UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI). He holds PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK. He previously earned his Master’s in Biotechnology (Molecular Genetic) from the University of Pennsylvania, USA, and BSc. in Biotechnology from Rochester Institute of Technology, USA. His PhD project focused on elucidating the genetic and epigenetic determinants that support kidney cancer pathogenesis. Saiful Effendi research interest revolves around understanding cancer molecular dependencies, specifically in kidney cancer, with the aim to identify novel and efficient clinical strategies to fight against cancer. Having been trained in the field of cell and molecular biology, cancer biology and genetic engineering for more than a decade, he has been extensively utilizing various state-of-the-art laboratory techniques throughout his cancer research works. Several of his research works have been published in high impact journals such as Nature, Cancer Discovery, Nature Communication, and Cell.
