Biografi/ Biography :
Latifah Abdul Majid (Majid, L.A.) is an Associate Professor at the Research Centre for al-Quran and al-Sunnah (PQS), Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She obtained her bachelor’s degree with second-class honors in Islamic Studies, specializing in al-Quran and al-Sunnah, from UKM in 1994 and joined the Department of al-Quran and al-Sunnah as a Tutor in 1995. She completed her Master’s degree in Islamic Studies (al-Quran and al-Sunnah) at UKM in 1997 with a dissertation entitled “The Ijtihad of Prophet S.A.W” and was appointed Lecturer in the same year. In 2008, she earned her Ph.D. in Religious and Theological Studies (Hadith) from the University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom, with a thesis entitled “The Hadiths as Tools for Religious, Political, and Social Teaching in the Malay Archipelago.”Her primary expertise lies in Hadith Studies and Contemporary Islamic Thought, with research spanning Hadith transmission in the Malay Archipelago, Hadith literature and methodology, and contemporary debates surrounding Orientalism, Liberalism, and Islamic epistemology. She has led and contributed to various funded projects, including the role of Hadith in shaping religious authority in the Malay world, the engagement of Hadith with youth development and women’s empowerment, Orientalist critiques of Hadith scholarship, and the application of Hadith in addressing ethical dilemmas such as reproductive health and family well-being.Her scholarship emphasizes the dynamic role of Hadith as both a classical discipline and a framework for addressing contemporary Muslim realities. She continues to publish in international journals, participate in scholarly dialogues on Hadith and modern issues, and mentor emerging researchers in the field.
